Arctic Fox

Drew him just for fun and it turned into something better. I'm thinking Im going to head in this direction with the rest of the animals. The animals for kids series has finally begun! Im liking the way this little guy looks a lot more. I'll be doing a few more of these little guys and I might take them to be printed for selling...who knows?

Job is going well so far. Im enjoying the flexible hours I've been getting. Its making it easier to keep up with artwork.

Trip to Mojave coming soon along with a visit from John's dad and I'm getting excited. Should be a lot of fun.

Finishes of a commission coming soon...

Green Dragon

Finished the painting. Fun and learned a lot as usual. Photoshop tends to feel different every time I use it. Im always struggling with it. I'll be posting more random critters and characters throughout the next couple of months to get better at the digital thing.

Work on the Morae River coming soon! Im thinking working large might work better this time around. Im planning to pick up where I left off and get more in-depth with the animals with at least 5 views of each. I have time now so it should go pretty smoothly...

Golden

I was finally able to get my final semester lined up and figured out today. I've had two classes switch on me so far and it wasn't fun to re-arrange my entire schedule again. Glad thats over with. Im excited that its the last time I'll have to deal with it.

Currently working on a small painting in photoshop for fun. Ill be posting that soon. It might change a bit so I wont write about what it looks like yet.

Now that my two preliminary websites are rebuilt and finished its time to move on to The Morae River's. That should be up by the end of June. Im wanting it to be very interactive with animated menus and whatnot. Im also considering re-working a lot of the creatures I've already explored to tighten them up even more so. Which leads me to the next matter of business. As I had said before Im working on a small portfolio - animals for kids. Im thinking I might try to push it further and go even more "stylized". Im thinking Brynnart.com might host a few different portfolios. Animals for kids, Realistic renditions of animals and fantasy illustration. Im currently working on getting all three figured out and started.

Now to figure out dinner....one of the hardest things I have to do in my day. Considering buying a cookbook by Rachel Ray or something so I don't have to think about it so much.

The photo above is from Blank Space Gallery in Oakland, The ceiling was very cool. Go there if you can.

New Websites!

So the websites have been re-vamped. Thanks to John, my portfolios are separated and the sites look great!

One more site is coming soon, The Morae River should be up in June....even though it says May...lol.

Trapeze

I grew up in the Mojave desert. My tortoro vaguely resembles the imaginary character that would run beside the car when my mom would drive me places.

Canyons

Lately I've been working toward completing more illustrations for the "Animals for kids" series. I've gone through and picked all of the animals I will be depicting although if you have any suggestions I'd love to hear them. The next animal I plan to explore is the Komodo Dragon. So far I've been using flat backgrounds to contrast the rendered depiction of the animal and Im liking the results. I think I might try to continue this approach.

John has been working on my websites, trying to get them ready for launch before he leaves for Ohio this weekend. So far they look great and I think they will work out better now that my two portfolios are separated.

Im hoping to get more sci-fi fantasy workout too. Im also currently working on a piece based on the Totoro Forest Project. Ive adopted the idea and am designing my own Tortoro for fun. Ill be uploading that later tonight or early tomorrow morning.

This week has been hot but full of swimming time. The cats seem to love the wood floors as they stay cool in hot weather.  The picture above is of two parrots I saw in Union Square about two months ago.

Spotted Hyena

The next animal in the "Animals for Kids" series. The lemur was kind of an experiment, although I do plan to do another primate, I might leave the R.R. Lemur out for now.

These next few critters (including this guy) will have more drawings and maybe type incorporated into the spreads.

time for bed...

Red Ruffed Lemur

Red Ruffed Lemur. One of 12 coming soon. Im thinking I might do some things differently for the next few animals.

Brynnart.com will updated by the end of the month

Sandalista

Life has slowed down a bit now. Most of my time lately, has gone to unpacking and organizing all of the little things that got tossed into boxes for the move such as these little guys. The silverware bugs were given to me as a random act of kindness not too long ago. Larry, if you ever stumble onto my blog - know that these small critters brighten my morning as I sit at my computer and check my email....thank you.

I have to say that it is nice to rest and re-connect with my living space. I've collected a few "home improvement projects" that I'd like to explore in my apartment. One of which Im really excited about - which Ill have to post later in the week when I get a proper scanner in front of me.

Im a bit overdue on some Illustration work I've been planning. Im thinking tonight might be more productive since everything has found its place now. Its hard for me to work when my studio and apartment are upside down.

My first animal I've chosen to explore is the red ruffed lemur.

I thought the coloring was nice, not to mention they are endangered, which might become somewhat of an overlying trait to most of the animals I choose. Its always the good ones that disappear, not to say the other animals aren't awesome, but to loose something like a tiger is just an overall bummer. Anyway expect some updates during the week on this amazing little guy.

Lifespan

Im finally moved into my new apartment. It's bigger, has better light, and the cats seem a lot happier with the wood floors - they're very cool and they lay all over them.

Time for change. I've deleted most of the posts in this blog as part of my spring cleaning. Im currently working on cleaning up my web presence in general - starting with my personal websites. Im splitting my portfolios up under two different domains. Illustration will be held on brynnart.com and Concept Art on Fish Hook Studio. Everything is linked and connected so one should be able to navigate through it all pretty smoothly. It should launch at the end of this month.

Im working with the Summer Program this summer and am very excited to get more involved with the faculty and students as time goes on. Its nice to be around creative people all day.

Im working on some illustration to fill up brynnart.com. Its mostly animals and scientific work such as "how birds fly". However, Im embracing my stylized side and embracing the look of my doodles in the finishes. Ill post more later tomorrow. Im very excited about it because its giving me a chance to work traditionally and more loosely. Im thinking this might be more "Kid friendly" as well. Although I'll still be updating Fish Hook Studio with more detailed creatures work as well as loose work.

In June Ill be visiting the Mojave again to see my family. Im excited to see the desert again - I've been missing it lately.

The image above is of a mural in the Mission I took earlier in the year. I rediscovered it in my iphoto.
